Crazy man drives past cops in a life-threatening pursuit and drills into ex’s home

Crazy man (43) makes life difficult for ex and drives against her house after police chase

Kortemark/Oostkamp/Eernegem

A 43-year-old man from Oostkamp, who has gone mad, has rocked Kortemark on both Monday and Tuesday. The man targeted his ex and destroyed all her car on Monday. He was able to flee but was spotted again on Tuesday. After a mile-long wild police chase, he drove his car into the facade of her house. The man has been arrested.

Since the end of 2020, the 43-year-old DV from Oostkamp has been causing a lot of nuisance. The man had a relationship with 53-year-old K. from Eernegem for a number of years and also lived together. However, the relationship was broken and that apparently DV could hardly bear. Since December, the police have received a series of complaints against him about stalking, threats, vandalism and vandalism. He also turned up every once in a while at his ex’s house in Eernegem. Because she was really afraid of her ex, she moved in with her 24-year-old daughter in the Conservenstraat in Kortemark. But DV also managed to find her there and made her life miserable, despite the fact that a 2-year-old child also lives in the house.

Car destroyed with hammer

Complaints against DV also came in at the Polder police zone, which includes Kortemark. “That window was shattered and was already sealed with wood. The situation escalated on Monday. The man went back to Conservenstraat and destroyed his ex’s car with a hammer. He fled before he could be caught by the police. Then it turned out that he had also towed a car of a family member in Eernegem. Since Monday, the man has therefore been called to the police to arrest him. Despite some reports, he was able to escape that day.”

Stolen car license plates

On Tuesday, the police were still frantically looking for DV. His car, an Opel Corsa, was suddenly spotted not far from his home in Oostkamp. There was no trace of DV. The police removed his number plates in the hope of catching DV without a car, but it turned out that he had fled a few hours later. From then on, a crazy afternoon ensued. “Because we feared that he would go to Kortemark again, many police teams went out in the hope of apprehending him on the way,” said Commissioner Merlevede. “He was caught a few times by the cameras in Kortemark. Suddenly we received a report from a woman that her number plates were stolen at the station in Kortemark. While a police team drove over there, they found DV in the Opel Corsa with the stolen number plates. The pursuit was then started.”

Dangerous chase, cops jump away

However, the maddened DV had no intention of stopping. With numerous police combinations driving down, he undertook a mad and life-threatening chase through Kortemark. “In addition, the man committed numerous traffic violations,” says the commissioner. “He ran a red light, at far too high speeds, on the sidewalk and on forbidden streets. At the roundabout at the church of Kortemark, a police combination was stopped and the officers drew their weapons. But he skimmed past the combination where the officers had to jump away to avoid getting hit.”

Drilled into window of house

The man turned out to have only one goal during the chase: to hit his ex again. DV then drove at high speed to the Conservenstraat, where his ex K. stayed with her daughter and her child. The man could not be stopped and the pursuing police had to watch as he deliberately turned into her street, then swerved to the right and drilled into the window with his car. That was already covered with wood plates due to the previous vandalism. The car came to a stop with its front in the living room. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The man was arrested and put in our police cell.” The public prosecutor of Bruges has been informed that they must decide what to do with the man. The Opel Corsa was towed for judicial investigation.
