Floods in Lower Franconia: Main ferries partially suspended

Rushing brooks and rivers, underwater meadows in the Kahlgrund, flooded roads in the Haßberge district: because it is currently raining so much, there is flooding in Lower Franconia.

Flood warning for large parts of Lower Franconia

The flood news service has issued warnings: for the regions of Aschaffenburg, Miltenberg, Main-Spessart, Bad Kissingen, Haßberge and Rhön-Grabfeld. There is flooding on the Kahl near Schöllkrippen in the Aschaffenburg district. Warning level 2 of 4 already applies to the tributary of the Main.

Streets in the Haßberge are flooded

The Sinn bei Mittelinn and the Franconian Saale near Wolfsmünster (both districts of Main-Spessart) have also reached reporting level 2. The Brend, the Thulba or the Lauer have reached reporting level 1 at some measuring points. The first streets near Gleusdorf in the Haßberge district have been flooded. The level on the Main itself continues to rise.

Current too high: Main ferries have ceased operations

The flood also has an impact on the Main ferries: The ferry between Stadtprozelten in the Miltenberg district and Mondfeld in neighboring Baden-Württemberg ceased operations this afternoon. The city administration in Wertheim points out the danger of currents and debris in the water. The situation is similar on the Mainschleife: The ferry between Fahr and Kaltenhausen in the Kitzingen district has been out of service since this morning until further notice. Water levels and currents are too high, according to the tourist information.

Ferry in Nordheim is under inspection

The ferry in Nordheim is currently being inspected and will probably not run again until January 10th. “The ferrymen are now checking the ferry over the holidays. They are changing the oil and, for example, maintaining the air conditioning. But the Altmain currently has so much water – the ferry couldn’t go there anyway,” said Nordheim’s mayor Sibylle Jäger ( CSU) the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation.

Ferryman in Dettelbach observes water levels in the Main

The ferry in Dettelbach in the Kitzingen district is currently still running. But the ferryman observes the water levels on a daily basis. It could be that the ferry will stop operating on Thursday, the ferryman said.

At the Main ferry Seligenstadt / Karlstein, the connection between Hesse and Bavaria, the ferry is currently running normally. According to the Seligenstadt municipal utilities, operations will not be discontinued. There are no plans to block ferry operations for the next few days either. The current situation would, however, be monitored closely and responded accordingly, it said.

The Main ferry at Obereisenheim in the Würzburg district is currently in the winter break.
