“We probably don’t need this range in a compact car, but now we can reduce the size of the battery, we can even have a much smaller battery than we see here in EQXX. That means lower car costs“added Markus Scäfer.
Last year, Mercedes launched an electric version, the EQS, which is capable of covering more than 650 kilometers on a single charge. The Vision EQXX battery pack is 50% less bulky and 30% lighter.
Mercedes is committed to becoming an all-electric brand by 2030. The company has been criticized for owning a Formula One team whose cars run on fossil fuels. However, the electric model was developed with the help of Mercedes-Benz’s Formula 1 and Formula E champion teams.
