Back to normal: first art fair opened with visitors in New York

Intimate Mass

Compared to the last few years one can speak of an intimate fair this year: While in the last few years almost 200 galleries have been accommodated, only 64 exhibitors gathered for the tenth edition of Frieze New York. With a few exceptions, the galleries are from New York, an obvious consequence of international travel restrictions.

Another novelty: Frieze New York is taking place for the first time in the cultural center “The Shed”. The hall, which with its spectacularly silvery-gray outer skin reminds many of a quilted Chanel handbag, opened its doors in 2019 as a cultural magnet for the newly developed Hudson Yard investor quarter.
