Don’t miss the peak of the Quadrantid Meteor Shower before dawn

VIVA – Show Quadrantid meteor shower has started from 28 December 2021 to 12 January 2022.

The peak will occur on Tuesday today, January 4, 2022 at 04.00 WIB, or 19 minutes before the call to prayer Dawn, for 25 minutes. This meteor shower comes from the dust remnants of Asteroid 2003 EH1 and Comet C/1490 Y1.

At this point, it’s raining meteor Quadrantid descending at an intensity of 200 meteors per hour. The phenomenon will appear to emerge from the Bootes constellation which rises at 02.44 WIB in the northeast direction.

The moon will be in the new moon phase so there is no moonlight that can interfere with observations at night. The height and intensity of the Quadrantid meteor shower from Sabang to Rote Island varies.

The peak intensity of the Quadrantid meteor shower in Sabang (35.8 degrees) is 117 meteors per hour, while Rote Island (16.3 degrees) is 56 meteors per hour.

As quoted VIVA Tekno from the Southern Sky site, unlike other meteor showers, the maximum intensity of the Quadrantid meteor shower only lasts a few hours.

During peak nights, observers can enjoy at least 120 meteors per hour moving at a speed of 41 km per second.
