When you think of a Halloween costume, you soon see monsters, witches, vampires or zombies. Not so the 1-year-old Jalayne Sutherland from the American state of Ohio, who dressed as the British Queen Elizabeth wanted to go through the doors to collect candy. Her mother decided to send a photo of the toddler to Buckingham Palace. And quite unexpectedly they got an answer.
The girl was dressed in detail like the British queen, complete with hat, wig and pearl necklace. And just like the real Elizabeth, Jalayne was accompanied by two corgis, the Queen’s favorite dogs – exactly why the Queen’s outfit was chosen.
“The biggest inspiration for the outfit was the fact that our corgis are our daughter’s best friends,” mother Katelyn tells the British daily The Sun. “We wanted to do something where the dogs could be part of the dress-up and we’re big fans of the royal family.”
Majesty
Walking through the streets of her hometown, the little queen went to neighbors to collect sweets. “She received a lot of compliments about her outfit,” her mother recalls in the newspaper. “The funniest reactions were when people bowed, waved and called her ‘Majesty’.”
On a whim, Mother Katelyn decided to send photos of the girl dressed up to the royal family and so got a letter back. “The Queen asks me to thank you for the letter and the photo that is attached,” writes an assistant to Elizabeth.
“The Queen is very pleased that you have sent her a letter and she was delighted to see the photo of Jalayne in her beautiful outfit.”
The Queen’s assistant has added some information about Elizabeth’s dogs to the letter. “Jalayne might like to read that.”
