There is a winter break in the Czech championship after 19 rounds, which will end in a month. Jablonec has welcomed the new year in the 14th position in the competition of 16 teams and with 14 goals scored it is the lowest performing team in the tournament.
The shameful is one of the four attackers who will fight for a place in Jablonec. The Czech club will have six test matches in the run-up to winter, three of them at a training camp in Spain.
Ikaunieks, 27, spent the previous year in the Liepāja team. In the Premier League, he scored three goals in 16 games and scored seven times in the doubles championship.
It is in the city of winds that Kuldīga Ikaunieks started his professional career, first representing the team of “Liepājas Metalurgs”, and then – “Liepāja”.
In the 2015 season, Ikaunieks was the best goal scorer in the Latvian Football Super League with 15 goals and took Liepāja to the first and so far only championship title in history.
The following summer, the Latvian footballer was hired to the Czech club Jihlava “Vysočina”, but then completely transferred to the Czech team. The beautiful debut in the Czech Premier League with a goal, but in the 2016/2017 season, he stood out nine times and helped the Vysočina team maintain its place in the Premier League.
The following season, the Latvian scored one more goal, but that was not enough for the Jihlava unit to remain in the Czech top division. In the summer of 2018, he moved to the much stronger Jablonec team, which made his UEFA Europa League group debut the following season. In the same year, Ikaunieks was recognized as the best football player in Latvia.
However, he failed to establish himself in the “Jablonec” club and in the summer of 2019 the goldman was hired to the RFS team, with which he won the Latvian Cup, but he spent the second half of the 2019/2020 season in the Czech team “Fastav” in Zlín. In the first half of the 2020/2021 season, he was hired by another Czech unit, Mlada Boleslav, and left empty for ten games.
In the Latvian national team, Ikaunieks has participated in 33 games, in which he scored six goals.
