James Webb telescope could last up to 10 years, this is the explanation NASA

NASA just launched the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) last Christmas.

JAKARTA, iNews.id – NASA launched the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) right on Christmas Day. After its launch, NASA announced some pretty surprising things about the future of this telescope.

NASA says the scientific mission is likely to last more than 10 years, double the minimum time to carry out a space mission.

Initially, the JWST was projected to be operational for 5 to 10 years, but NASA’s newly released analysis found that the telescope will likely have enough propellant to support scientific operations for much longer.

According to NASA, quoted by The Verge, Monday (3/1/2022) the extra propellant is there thanks to the precision of the Ariane 5 rocket that JWST used when it was launched into space. It’s also due to the precision of the first and second mid-lane correction maneuvers, minor trajectory adjustments that the spacecraft has completed in the days since launch, putting it on track to its destination one million miles from Earth.
