14:55 – Ralf Rangnick still has faith in the qualities of Donny van de Beek. The midfielder has barely played for a year and a half and seemed to be looking for another club this winter, but Manchester United seem unwilling to just cooperate.
Rangnick responded extensively at his press conference to Van de Beek’s wish to leave United. “I still believe that we should keep Donny van de Beek,” said the German. “He has to stay until the end of the season anyway. Last week I had a conversation with him about it. Work hard, I told him. He wants to play, also with a view to the national team.”
The 24-year-old midfielder has not yet started at United in the Premier league this season. His counter stands at seven competition appearances, of which all as a substitute. He was accurate in that one. After the coach change (Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired, ed.) He was allowed to hope for a new chance, but it did not materialize.
Rangnick also touched on Edinson Cavani’s future. The Uruguayan striker is in the interest of several clubs. “He is certainly not going to leave in January. We told him that we are not cooperating with a transfer, we need him. He is a very important player for me. He is great,” said the German coach.
