Police were forced to use force as the protests escalated into violent clashes, media reported.
In Amsterdam, violent clashes took place between police and protesters against another lockdown in connection with the coronavirus pandemic on January 2. Twitter users in the comments to the video from the scene are outraged that law enforcement officers are actually beating protesters.
The police use shields and batons, as well as service dogs. At the same time, the NL Times notes that the police were forced to use force due to the fact that the protests escalated into violent clashes.

Earlier, the municipality of Amsterdam, the prosecutor’s office and the police banned a demonstration in the city on January 2 against restrictions to combat COVID-19 due to the refusal of the organizers to ensure the safe conduct of the event.
More than 3.5 thousand people are taking part in today’s rally. Police expect several thousand more people to take part in the protests. The organizers, in turn, said they expect 25,000 people to attend and intend to march through the city.
Demonstrators came out with demands for freedom and the lifting of restrictions, in particular the cancellation of the lockdown and the opening of shops and cafes.

The Dutch authorities introduced a lockdown in the country from December 19 to January 14 due to the spread of the Omicron strain. All bars, cafes, restaurants, shops are closed in the country, except for those selling essential goods, cinemas, theaters, museums, gyms and other gyms.
Hairdressers and beauty salons also do not work, and there are no Christmas markets.
Only grocery stores, pharmacies, libraries, gas stations and driving schools remain open. Schools are also closed, adults are advised to work remotely whenever possible.
