Jakarta (ANTARA) – China released a number of new images of Mars sent by the Tianwen-1 spacecraft on the first day of 2022.
New images received Saturday (1/1) show the varying working conditions of the Tianwen-1 orbiter and rover, as well as the topography of the Martian surface obtained by the two probes, the Space Administration said. China National (China National Space Administration/CNSA).
The images include photos of the orbiter and Mars, close-up photos of the orbiter, ice sheets in the Arctic region of Mars, and surface landscapes taken by the Zhurong rover.
China’s Tianwen-1 mission, consisting of an orbiter, a lander, and a rover, was launched on July 23, 2020.
The lander carrying a rover with an estimated lifetime of at least 90 Martian days or about three months Earth time, lands in the southern part of Utopia Planitia, a vast plain in the northern hemisphere of Mars, on May 15, 2021.
Zhurong descended from his landing platform to the surface of Mars on May 22 to begin his exploration of the planet nicknamed the Red Planet.
As of December 31, 2021, the CNSA noted that the Tianwen-1 orbiter had orbited for 526 days at a distance of about 350 million kilometers from Earth. Zhurong has been working on the surface of the Red Planet for 225 Martian days and covered a distance of 1,400 meters.
The Tianwen-1 mission carried out planned testing and exploration tasks, and has collected approximately 560 gigabytes (GB) of data. Both the orbiter and rover are in good condition and operating normally, the CNSA said.
