Florida Adds 56,800 New Covid Cases, No New Deaths Reported – NBC 6 South Florida

Florida recorded over 56,800 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, a significant decrease from the more than 75,000 cases reported on Friday.

The 56,865 new cases reported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention brought the state’s total since the pandemic started in March 2020 to 4,222,827.

Thanks largely to the fast-spreading Omicron variant and an increase in testing, Florida has set records for daily cases all week, with 75,962 reported on Friday, 58,013 on Thursday, 52,995 on Wednesday, 33,567 on Tuesday, and 29,129 on Monday.

Covid hospital admissions in the state rose 484 on Friday to 4,485, according to the Florida Hospital Association. That total is nowhere near the peak of 17,100 hospital admissions during the Summer Delta Wave.

Hospital stays in the state have increased over 144% in the past week, even though more than 25% of beds in the adult intensive care unit are available.

The death toll related to Covid in the state stood at 62,480 as of Friday. No new deaths were reported on Saturday.

In Miami-Dade County, the positivity rate hit 28% on Saturday, but 135 patients with COVID-19 were reported in intensive care units on Friday.
