The Israeli army has launched attacks on targets in the Gaza Strip a day after rockets were fired from the area. According to the army, the attacks are a response to that.
The military says it hit targets of Hamas, the militant Palestinian organization that controls Gaza. It concerns a site where rockets are made and various locations that Israel says were used for terrorist activities.
Images by AP news agency from the city of Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip, show a number of explosions. Fighter planes can also be heard flying overhead. International news agencies report that nothing is clear about possible victims.
Rockets in the sea
Yesterday morning, two rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip. They ended up in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of central Israel.
It is unknown whether the missiles were intended to hit Israel. It is also unclear who fired them. It is more common for militant groups in the Gaza Strip to test missiles by firing them toward the sea.
Israel and Hamas signed a in May ceasefire after eleven days of massive attacks back and forth.
