She added that during her tenure as the ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, the criteria for a visa-free regime that the country must comply with became clear. According to her, this concerns internal Ukrainian issues. In particular, border protection, exchange of information on lost or stolen passports.
As a separate criterion, Markarova singled out the percentage of refusals for tourist visas and how often Ukrainians illegally stay in the United States on them.
“We need to work on these indicators so that they are within the framework of those indicators, after which this issue can be politically discussed between the two countries,” she said.
The diplomat added that on the exchange of information, Ukraine and the United States will sign documents that will help resolve this issue in the future.
