Coronavirus in Italy and in the world: news and Covid case bulletin today 1 January. LIVE

New Year’s Eve, the parade is back in London, in a ‘reduced’ edition for Covid

Dinosaurs, samba groups, stars of TV talent shows: in London, on the first day of 2022, the traditional New Year’s parade returns, canceled in 2021 due to Covid and today reborn in a reduced version due to the always high infections (yesterday almost 190,000 cases in 24 hours). Instead of the roughly 600,000 people who normally attended the performances and the parade – traditionally the parade runs between Piccadilly and Whitehall, the large boulevard overlooked by ministries – there were only 600, all with tickets, who attended the colorful show at Waterloo Place, in the heart of the capital. The event was streamed live on the New Year’s Day Parade website. Among the protagonists, The Voice UK winner Molly Hocking, rocker Michael Armstrong and West End theatrical star Marisha Wallace, but also artists of all kinds representing 22 countries and all 32 boroughs of London. Locally, the samba and reggae band Bloco Fogo, the City of London Brass Band, the dancers of Boogie Storm, and the dancing lions and dragons of the London Chinatown Chinese Association. And even the dinosaur-robots created by Creature Events.
