The former deputy of the Movement to Socialism (MAS) and promoter of the trial against former president Jeanine Añez, Lidia Patty, rejected the two decrees for the requirement of the vaccination card against the covid or negative PCR tests from January 1 and, instead , announced that it presented to the Ministry of Health a proposal so that kallawayas (traditional doctors) can extend cards of having overcome the covid with traditional medicine. He believed that the demand by decree is a “radical”, “discriminatory” and “unconstitutional” measure.
As reported by the Fides News Agency, the former parliamentarian assured that in rural areas there are “quite a few people” who feel discriminated against by supreme decrees 4640 and 4641, because they do not take into account the benefits of natural medicine despite being recognized in the Political Constitution of the State. He also claimed that in 2020, when there were no vaccines yet, natural medicine cured many people of the coronavirus.
“The Kallawayas, (known as) traditional doctors have cured us, although many times we have self-medicated applying our traditional medicine. That is why I have presented (a petition) to the Ministry of Health to authorize the Kallawayas brothers to give a certification as now the vaccination card is being given ”, he declared to the ANF.
During the week, Vice President David Choquehuanca said that he was cured at least twice from the coronavirus with traditional medicine, which included eating grass.
In Patty’s criteria, there are people in rural areas who are susceptible to what may happen as of January 1. He said that many imagine that they will not even be able to eat at a boarding house and children will not be able to go to school if they do not have the vaccination card or the negative PCR test.
He considered that the decrees on the vaccine restrict the right of indigenous people to be cured with ancestral medicine. In addition, by indirectly forcing vaccination, they also prohibit entry into banks. That is why he proposed a revision of both standards.
He accused the ministers of inducing President Luis Arce to create measures of that magnitude and “in the wrong way.” “This decree restricts the right of brothers and sisters, children will no longer be able to study, nor will they be able to go to the health center,” he protested.
The Government decreed that, from January 1, the population will have to walk with the vaccination card or with a negative PCR test to enter public and private institutions, or where there is an agglomeration of people. According to the Vice Minister of Health, Alejandra Hidalgo, the cost of the PCR tests amounts to Bs. 800.
Patty noted the high cost of PCR testing. He said it places citizens between a rock and a hard place: receive the free vaccine or get tested at least twice a week.
“That is why there has to be only for those who have been healed with traditional medicine (a card), they have to respect the decision of some of the brothers who are not agreeing to the vaccine,” he insisted.
There are no scientific records that natural medicine can heal people infected with the coronavirus, but in 2020, when the pandemic arrived in the country, many people went to these treatments. Even from the Tropic of Cochabamba they went out to the media to teach how to prepare mates and herbal syrups for those who had the symptoms of the disease.
Currently, voices have emerged in the country that disagree with the obligation to carry a vaccination card or a negative PCR. The Government clarified that vaccination is not mandatory, however, for a series of activities such as entering public and private institutions, citizens have to carry the vaccination card.
