Czech hockey representatives will come from the venue of the World Championships up to 20 years later. The expedition, which was to depart from the canceled championship in Canada, was reported from the plane. According to team manager Otakar Černý, this was due to the behavior of the Russian team, which was to return with the same connection.

There was also a Finnish expedition on the plane, which flew according to plan. “It was a very strange situation. We arrived at the airport in Calgary about three hours before departure. Our players went to buy souvenirs from Canada and some players called their families at home. On the contrary, we saw Russian players sitting at the bar. I warned all our players in advance. to wear a veil throughout their stay at the airport and to comply with the distances, “ stated by Černý for the ČT Sport website.
“Then we got on a plane and at that moment we noticed that some members of the Russian expedition did not follow the hygienic rules. Alcohol probably played a role in that. One of the members of the Russian implementation team even smoked in the tunnel before boarding the plane. Some fellow passengers then they complained about the behavior of the Russians, and the crew therefore had the entire plane emptied. “ added Black.
The problem, according to the manager, was that the flight attendants identified the situation of young men in gray sweatshirts as culprits. “These sweatshirts were packed by all players before the start of the championship. Unfortunately, the Czech ones look exactly the same as the Russian ones, with the only difference that the sweatshirts of our players have the inscription ‘Czech Republic’ and the Russian ones ‘Russia’. And practically just for that reason they threw us in the same bag as the Russians and told us that the entire Czech and Russian expedition could no longer board the plane. “
The Finns wore classic blue and white combinations and were allowed to board and fly. “Even though we explained to Air Canada for about thirty minutes that our players had not broken anything, their decision could no longer be taken back. “They secured a hotel and a flight to Frankfurt at the same time a day later. They also assured us that we would not fly the same plane as the Russian hockey players.” added Black.
