Montana, the state with the most hate groups per capita in 2020 in the US.

The Center for Legal Studies on Poverty in the Southeast (SPLC) continues to track the number of active hate groups in the United States. Their 2020 report shows Montana among the top 10 states with the most hate groups. per capita.

Per capita is a term used in economic and statistical analysis that means “per person”.

The ten states with the most hate groups in the United States per person are:

  1. Montana
  2. Tennessee
  3. Nebraska
  4. Arkansas
  5. New Hampshire
  6. Alabama
  7. Virginia
  8. South Carolina
  9. Idaho
  10. Nevada

Montana has six hate groups, including two anti-Muslim groups, two white nationalist groups, a racist skinhead organization, and a section of the Proud Boys, a self-styled brotherhood of Western chauvinism that spreads “anti-political correctness” and “anti-political”. as well as “white guilt,” according to the Center for Legal Studies on Poverty in the Southeast.

Without breaking down the groups per capita, California still has the most hate groups with 74. California is followed by Florida, 68, Texas, 54, New York, 37, Pennsylvania, 36, Tennessee, 34, Virginia, 33, Georgia, 29, North Carolina, 29 and Arizona, 26.

The racial majority in Montana is white

Montana is a western state characterized by its diverse terrain ranging from the Rocky Mountains to the Great Plains, and its northern border borders Canada and Wyoming to the south.

With a population of just over one million, Montana has six hate groups per million civilians in the state, while no other state has five hate groups per million civilians.

Nearly 85 percent of Montana’s population is white, according to demographics from the United States Census Bureau.

In all, there are 838 hate groups in the United States. Compared to 2018, when 1,020 active hate groups were recorded, there has been a decrease.

According to the SPLC, hate groups are known to communicate online through encrypted platforms, making them difficult to track.

This means that there are more hate groups in the country than can be traced.
