The number of coronavirus infections is rising for the first time in a long time. This is evident from data from health institute Sciensano. The number of hospital admissions and deaths is still declining.

In the period from December 22 to 28, an average of 7,819 new corona infections were counted every day. That average is 11 percent higher than in the previous seven-day period. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 2.1 million corona infections have been registered in our country. The positivity ratio for that period rose to 12.8 percent.
The number of hospital admissions is still declining. Between December 25 and 31, an average of 139.4 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized daily, an eight percent decrease from the previous week. There are currently 1,761 corona patients in hospital (a decrease of fourteen percent), 532 require intensive care (a decrease of eighteen percent). The reproduction number for the number of hospital admissions increased to 0.97. This means that, in terms of the number of hospital admissions, the pandemic is still declining, albeit at a slower pace.
During the same period, an average of 28 people died every day from the consequences of infection with the corona virus, a decrease of 22 percent compared to the previous week.
