E-NYPD: New York Police Orders Ford Mustang Mach-E GTs

Earlier this month, Joe Biden, the president of the United States, took a step towards electrifying his country. He signed a decree that decided that all government vehicles must be electric by 2035, and the lighter ones even by 2027. New York is already taking that goal seriously with a significant order for electric cars.

First (small) step

The local climate official said that the city council has ordered 184 Ford Mustang Mach E GTs. The cars would mainly be used as a police car, but a number of copies also go to other agencies within the city. With this, New York is taking a first step towards a fully electrified fleet — albeit a relatively small step. For example, the police force alone has about 6,200 light patrol cars, so there is still a long way to go before all of them are EVs.

The Mustang Mach-E GT certainly doesn’t seem like a bad choice for a police car, given its considerable power and long driving range. For example, you already have to come up with fairly coarse artillery to be too fast with its 487 hp and it gets almost 500 kilometers from its large battery pack. Moreover, they already saw a police car in it at Ford, as evidenced by the appropriate decals that they gave him in the photo above.
