The Ford news inspired website Fordauthority has discovered that the American brand has patented a number of older model names in Australia, New Zealand and the EU. These are the names Capri, Cortina, Escort, Granada and Orion. What Ford is planning is not immediately clear. After all, not every patented idea or name is used effectively, it is sometimes simply done to protect the names.
But it could also be that Ford is planning new models that draw inspiration from the model. Perhaps this is not about a successor, as was the case with the Ford GT, for example, but about some styling details of a legendary name, such as with the Mustang Mach-E? In the US, on the other hand, Ford is resurrecting the Bronco, and a Ford Escort is already driving around in China (which, by the way, has no link with the original model outside its name), so a new Capri or Escort is not completely out of the question, even if older generations of the latter rebuilt for enthusiasts. In a distant past there were rumors about that. In any case, one can dream!
