Monaco has yet to officially say goodbye to Niko Kovac, but will wait with the resignation until there is more clarity about his successor. And that could very likely be Philippe Clement.
Clement, who helped Club Brugge to the national title in the past two years, would be close to an agreement with Monaco, according to French sports channel RMC Sport. Our compatriot is currently on a skiing holiday, but would have had a virtual meeting with the Monaco club management today.
This season, with 28 goals against in 21 matches, it is a bit less at number 2 Club Brugge and there were already rumors that Clement would visit other places at the end of the season. With Monaco, an opportunity would cross his path sooner than expected.
In Monaco, Clement awaits the challenge to guide the number 6 in the French league to the Champions League. Monaco is three points behind number 3 Olympique Marseille.
Club Brugge will travel to Marbella (in Spain) for a winter internship between 3 and 9 January. In the short term, promise coach Rik De Mil and assistant Carl Hoefkens could take over.
