There are indications that heavy fireworks are collected in the Hoge Vucht district in Breda to be used as a weapon against aid workers during the New Year. For this reason, Hoge Vucht has been designated as a safety risk area.
Since two o’clock on Friday afternoon, the police have been allowed to carry out a preventive search in the neighborhood. The measure is in effect for 48 hours.
On the turn of the year two years ago, officers were ambushed and pelted with incendiary bombs. The police then came to the neighborhood because young people destroyed a mobile security camera on the Wensel Cobergherstraat. In that street they were met by groups of young people, who threw heavy fireworks and Molotov cocktails. The rioters caused nearly a million euros in damage.
There were no riots last year. This was due to the strong efforts of the police, enforcement and supervision.
