China wants to be the world’s leading player in robotics by 2025. The goal is a new five-year plan announced just before the end of this year. Beijing will do its utmost to build a high-tech manufacturing sector resistant to US sanctions, the document said.
The plan aims to help Chinese technology companies compete on the world stage. It is composed of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other agencies.
The main obstacle to China’s becoming a technology leader is US sanctions restricting the sale of chips to the Asian country.
The government wants to improve the industry’s ability to innovate. One of the areas that will be given special importance is robotics.
Initially, Beijing will focus on robots used in the automotive, aerospace, transportation and semiconductor sectors. Emphasis is also placed on service robots for healthcare, agriculture, mining and construction, as well as riot control robots and other law enforcement operations.
Financial incentives for scientists and facilitation of the activities of technology companies are provided. Diversification of supply chains is also a top priority, amid Sino-US rivalry.
