Another year is ending with the country deeply divided, with no possible reconciliation in sight.
The blame is somewhat irrelevant, but the need for a fix is a national priority. Before a transformation, the republic needs an exercise of compromise among Mexicans.
You will get nowhere with the sectarian 4T, known as the unified tribes of Mexico, who do not know what to do with the country. Nor can they reconcile those from the opposite parish, those disparagingly labeled as conservative, although not all of them are. They do not have the tools to lay the foundations for an arrangement that understands and interests the country as a whole.
The healthy popular humor before politics has disappeared to give way to a sour atmosphere of confrontation and anger. As if the national laugh had arrived.
Gone is the tradition built from the pages of the “Son of Ahuizote”, those that under the impulse of the Flores Magón underpinned the revolution, or the Spring tents when Mexico was emerging to modernity. The festive joy turned sad depression of the republic.
The country is experiencing a climate of widespread anger and hatred. Exactly the reverse of the Christian commandment (John 13: 34-35): “As I have loved you, so also love one another”, in Mexico they hate each other. The 4T does not withstand the slightest criticism and acts as if it were the only expression of the truth, even if you have to lie to achieve it.
Hate is a bad advisor. Machiavelli already warned: “Among the things that a prince must keep are contempt and hatred.”
Even more forceful when he sentenced: “a prince should not give much importance to conspiracies if he enjoys the affection of the people, but if the people are against him and hate him then he must fear everything and everyone.” AMLO is not a prince, but he is the object of contempt and hatred of a very considerable segment of the population.
The government in turn must accept that if the president has majority acceptance, there is also widespread contempt and hatred in the remaining fraction of the population (40%), which is not good news for AMLO, but not for Mexico either.
The country does not deserve a president hated by millions, who is daily disrespected and wished for misfortune.
Politics is a game in which everyone must participate. It is a public event that even those who believe they have nothing to do with it take part. If there is life in society, there is a need for politics. An accepted definition of politics is that it is the art of negotiation to reconcile interests.
Almost half the country has no interest in knowing how the government’s strange projects are going, but the truth is that every day when millions wake up they wonder what the day’s happening is, what presidential cuteness will increase the national anxiety. Each day that passes brings some relief because it is one day less than AMLO in the Palace
The president will have to change his narrative and realize that the three years of his policy have eroded the illusion of the country. Hope is something that no people can be denied. Without conciliation there will be no possible transformation.
