The 74-year-old Hollywood actor and former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is now officially free: after a 10.5-year divorce process, his marriage to 66-year-old journalist Mary Schriver has finally been officially divorced. According to media reports, the lawsuit was closed earlier this month by a private judge, but the Los Angeles Supreme Court system required the case to be represented by an acting judge on 28 December.

Such a long divorce process has been blamed on “lack of motivation” and “difficult coordination of the matrimonial property regime”. Although the nuances of the divorce agreement are confidential, TMZ speculates that the couple is likely to have split 400 million worth of property between them because they did not have a marriage contract. In his memoirs published in the autumn of 2012, Schwarzenegger writes that he himself confessed to his wife about the existence of an illegitimate son.
