At least four protesters were shot dead during demonstrations against military rulers in Sudan. So says the Sudan Doctors Committee, a collective of doctors. Dozens of people have been injured.
Thousands of people demonstrated again today in the capital Khartoum and nearby cities against the military rulers in the country. Security forces fired tear gas to prevent protesters from reaching the presidential palace in Khartoum.
It is the eleventh day of mass demonstrations since the October 25 coup. The army then overthrew Prime Minister Hamdok, who in November returned to that position. But according to the protesters, the army still holds power behind the scenes. They demand that the military rulers give up their influence over the government.
Bridges closed
As with previous protests, internet and telephony have been shut down. Most bridges near the capital have been closed by military personnel. Protesters try to pass those barricades, with security forces deploying tear gas and flash grenades, eyewitnesses told Reuters news agency.
On Saturday, tens of thousands of protesters gathered in Khartoum. They then managed to reach the presidential palace. Doctors say at least 200 people were injured. Six of them were said to have been hit by bullets. Dozens of people have been killed in protests since the coup.
