Times are changing and New York City has always been one of the most innovative in accelerating these changes! It is also the first police force to massively adopt the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT “Interceptor” for its services.

The electrification of the automobile is not unknown in New York City, as Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion Energi and even Smart ForTwo EVs have already been seen there for years. However, with the announcement of the arrival of Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Interceptor, the city takes it to the next level with the purchase of 184 copies, a contract worth US $ 11.5 million.
Pretty much everywhere
The purchasing manager is the Department of Citywide Administrative Services which manages the vehicle fleet of all departments under the New York City dome. We will certainly see Mustang Mach-E in the colors of the NYPD, the famous New York Police Department. In addition, these Mach-E GTs will also be located in the Sheriff’s services, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Office of the Chief Health Examiner and of course the New Town Environmental Protection Department. York.
184 of 6,200
Considering that the New York fleet has more than 30,000 vehicles, these 184 Mustang Mach-E GTs are just a drop in the bucket, but certainly one more step towards electrification. Of these 30,000 vehicles, there are no less than 6,200 considered to be light and therefore more easily replaceable depending on the current state of electrification. We remember that New York has plans to become carbon neutral by 2050. According to the agreement, the 184 electric SUVs should be delivered before June 30.
Michigan State Police Certified
We also remember that the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT was the first electric vehicle approved by the Michigan State Police. Police forces must follow the recommendations of this North American organization, which certifies police vehicles, particularly for prosecution. Let’s bet more will follow and let’s hope other police departments follow New York’s lead.
