Alex Roldán -the versatile player of the El Salvador team- became one of the best additions that coach Hugo Pérez made to the payroll of the national team that is currently contesting the qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
With 25 years of age and a short but fruitful career in MLS with the Seattle Sounders with whom he was already league champion in 2019, the sporting trail of the current captain of the team has also been variable since he has played defense, midfielder , pointer and even goalkeeper in his league.
With the selection of Hugo Pérez, he has placed him in different positions within the field of play, from the left wing or pointer, passing as a containment or as a lane on the right, or simply as a driver or mixed midfield midfield.
Roldán is the son of a Guatemalan immigrant father (César) and a Salvadoran mother (Ana) and has two older brothers, Cesar Jr., who works as the LA Galaxy coach, and Cristian, a Seattle Sounders FC midfielder and his teammate on the Emerald team.
Before being called up with the El Salvador national team last July, Álex Roldán was also an option for the United States and Guatemala, but last May Roldán rejected Guatemala’s request, so in June of this year coach Hugo Pérez confirmed that Roldán had accepted El Salvador’s offer.
Thus, on June 18, he was named a member of El Salvador’s provisional team for the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
On July 1, he was named to the final team and on July 11 he made his international debut as a substitute in El Salvador’s first group stage match against Guatemala, where he also scored his first goal, scoring the first in victory. by 2-0.
Regarding his professional training, the youngest of the Roldán brothers attended El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, California where he played for the club “The Dons” and in his time as a university student at Seattle University he played for four years with the “Redhawks. “With whom he played 82 games and scored 18 goals and 17 assists.
Roldan also played in the National Premier Soccer League for OSA FC. On January 19, 2018, Seattle Sounders FC selected Roldán 22nd overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, signing with the club in February 2018.
