The Ministry of Health (Minsa) and Latam Airlines Peru signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement to establish collaboration and coordination mechanisms that facilitate the transport of health professionals from procurement and transplantation to the places where the extraction of organs and transplants must be carried out. tissues and also their subsequent transfer to the place where they will be implanted.
This agreement will improve the availability of organs and tissues for the benefit of patients who are on the waiting list for a transplant.
Likewise, the agreement indicates that the Minsa, through the General Directorate of Donations, Transplants and Blood Bank (Digdot), undertakes to monitor the transport process of health professionals in charge of the extraction of organs and tissues, and It will also train Latam Peru staff on organ and / or tissue donation and transplantation issues.
For its part, The airline will provide 60 courtesy annual air tickets for the transfer of procurement equipment, transplantation and organs and / or tissues. It should be noted that this agreement will be valid for three years.
The doctor Juan Almeyda Alcántara, general director of Digdot, stressed that this agreement is transcendental because once the organ has been removed from the donor, the times for its implantation are short, ensuring that its operation is maintained. That is why, in cases where it is necessary to transfer the organs to a city other than the place of extraction, the process must be carried out in the shortest possible time.
Finally, the director of Digdot recommended that those who wish to be organ or tissue donors communicate their decision to their family or the registrar at the time of processing their National Identity Document (DNI) for the first time or when they renew it, in this way will respect your willingness to donate and will be able to help many patients who require a transplant.
