Dyantha Brooks deeply regrets slime interview with Gordon

Dyantha Brooks has in retrospect quite a bit of regret about the slime interview she held with Gordon last summer. “I would approach such an interview differently now,” the presenter said.

It’s one of the most laughable TV moments in recent years: Gordon walking down like royalty on the stage of the Concertgebouw to treat Dyantha Brooks to an exclusive one-on-one interview. As if he were some sort of American celebrity, Gordon and Dyantha sat across from each other to talk about all his suffering.

It was a complete non-interview with the ‘news’ that Gordon had had a relapse in his addictions. So not really news; that is more in line with expectations. “Drink, coke, everything. I’ve been completely out of the world for four days,” he lamented. “If the corona crisis had not been there, I would have just kept it up.”

One morning after the broadcast, Shownieuws was pretty much judged on this dissent. The program’s Gordon special was an outright ratings flop with only 376 thousand viewers.

Diana under fire

Dyantha was under fire after the broadcast. She had been chosen by Gordon himself because he was such a strong new talent found. After complimenting her extensively, Gordon saw no danger at all in this ‘television talent’. And rightly so: really no critical question came out of her mouth.

Angela de Jong liked Dyantha’s attitude and the whole setting hilarious. “Dyantha had carefully studied in preparation how Eva Jinek usually approaches such a thing. From the suit to the pose and look of supreme concentration – everything was copied down to the last detail.” And Gordon? That was once again angry at all the criticism.

Sorry about crying interview

Dyantha is now also aware of the mess she has delivered. “Partly because of Gordon’s descriptions, many people started to look at me extra critically, like: let’s see how she fares. (…) Afterwards I received a lot of feedback that I should have been much more critical of him”, she says in New Revue.

Being critical? Dyantha hadn’t thought of that at all! “I was like, he doesn’t owe our country anything that he’s been an addict. Gordon was not a case of Frits Wester standing in front of the camera under the influence. Still, after the run I had the feeling that people thought I should have tackled Gordon much harder.”

from learned

Dyantha thinks this criticism of her interviewing skills is justified. She regrets the Gordon interview. “I learned a lot from that. I would approach such an interview differently now.”

Yet Dyantha is still grateful to her SBS 6 colleague Gordon for that opportunity. “He said to me on the spot that he thinks I have a lot of character, that I jump off the screen at Shownieuws, that he sees a great talent and at the same time was very curious about me.”

Well, guess why.
