BARNEVELD The Illuminated Farm Route through the Gelderse Valley attracted so many interested people on Wednesday evening that traffic jams arose in several places. ,,It’s too busy tonight”, the organization reports on Facebook. ,,It is better not to connect anymore and if necessary go home now to avoid dangerous situations. The queues are too long.”
The crowds on social media prompted several reactions. ,,Super nice initiative, but we didn’t see much lighting, except for the lights of the car in front of us. Several days to spread out next year? Then we will definitely participate again.”
Others also report that they have mainly been stuck in traffic. ,,After 45 minutes in a traffic jam, we turned around before the start of the route. Maybe for several evenings next time, at least the idea was fun! But in this lockdown everyone is looking for a getaway.” Another has a similar idea. “So great success. Perhaps an idea to continue this great initiative until January 3, so that you have a little more spread? Good initiative,” writes one of the participants on Facebook.
According to Linda van de Bor, one of the organizers, there were 2,500 registrations tonight. That is more than three times as many as the more than eight hundred that the organization had at the beginning of this week. ,,And then it concerns registrations, while you did not have to register, so there are many more participants.” The organization already saw the storm pending yesterday, she says. “The number of registrations went so fast that we have arranged traffic controllers. They are located at the major intersections to ensure that everything runs safely.”
The ’round’ through the Gelderse Vallei leads by car through Barneveld, De Glind, Leusden, Woudenberg, Scherpenzeel and Renswoude and could be driven from 6 p.m. tonight. The organization is in the hands of Vallei Boert Bewust and LTO Gelderse Vallei and the goal is to highlight sustainable work of farmers literally and figuratively. A total of 45 farms have been highlighted.
