It was a moving and eventful year 2021, which, unfortunately, was also dominated by the corona pandemic in the past 12 months. But there were also positive developments around SC Preußen and its team, which played their way into the hearts of the fans through passionate performances. In our three-part annual review, we look back at this year – today from May to August.
May: May had several good news in store for the sports club. Via the league, in which the Prussians wore the special jerseys and “football fans against cancer” on their chests, the eagle bearers qualified ahead of time for participation in the DFB Cup. In addition, veteran Simon Scherder extended his contract one more time and remains loyal to his heart club to this day. But that’s not all. In the Westphalia Cup, the Prussians prevailed 1-0 in the final against Sportfreunde Lotte and celebrated their first title win since 2014.
June: Simon Scherder’s contract extension will be followed by his number 200 game in the last game of the season. Together with goalkeeper Max Schulze Niehues, he will be promoted to an elite group. And while the professionals are saying goodbye to the summer break, the YOUNGSTARS start again and start preparing for the season. In addition, the German Vice Championship of SC Prussia was 70 years ago this month. At the end of June, the sports club will make up for its postponed annual general meeting.
July: It starts again. After almost four weeks of summer break, coach Sascha Hildmann’s team is returning to the field and starting to prepare for the 2021/22 season. In addition, the advance booking for the first round duel in the DFB-Pokal is running and the new home jersey is presented – the anticipation on Hammer Straße is huge.
August: 6,703 spectators watch the DFB Cup game in the Preußenstadion and cause goose bumps on Hammer Straße after a year and a half of the pandemic. And that lasted a week until the Adlerträger scored the winning goal in the final minute of the first game of the season against Alemannia Aachen. The resulting jubilation video went viral and showed what power the Prussian stadium can develop
