The talks are the latest in a series of meetings by top Israeli officials with Palestinian leaders.
Israel’s new Prime Minister (PM), Naftali Bennett, opposes Palestinian independence and has sidelined formal peace talks.

However, Bennett said he wanted to reduce friction with the Palestinian Authority and improve living conditions for residents in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Despite these promises, the area has experienced an increase in violence in recent weeks.

There have been a series of Palestinian attacks against Israelis in the West Bank and east Jerusalem as well as a wave of violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians.
