But is there any validity to the claims against LastPass? According to LastPass itself, the answer is: We don’t think so. When reached for comment by Gizmodo, the company provided us with a statement blaming the irregular activity on “credentialsAttempts by an unknown threat actor:
LastPass has investigated recent reports of blocked login attempts and we believe the activity is related to an attempted “credential stuffing” where a malicious or malicious person attempts to access user accounts (in this case, LastPass) using obtained email addresses and Third Party Passwords – Third Party Violations involving other unaffiliated services.
The company continues to claim that it has seen no evidence of any actual hacking of its servers or even individual accounts being hacked:

So, according to the company, they saw no evidence that they had leaked user data, or that a hacker had managed to access user accounts. If you are a LastPass user and this sounds like a cool relief, activation is a good step to take Multi-factor authentication For added protection, it would probably be a good idea to do it anyway.
