Floods in Brazil – 50 thousand people evacuated

The state of Bahia is the most affected by flooding in Brazil. Governor Rui Costa told reporters that nearly 50,000 people have been displaced and 5,000 new homes will need to be built at a cost of R $ 400 million.

“The looting is huge. It looks like Bahia was bombed, “he said.

Brazilian Regional Development Minister Rogerio Mariño said additional assistance is expected in the near future. The government has allocated 200 million reais ($ 35.5 million) in aid funds.

“We are waiting for a more detailed (damage) assessment to see what is needed and we will do everything necessary,” the minister said.

It is also interesting that President Jair Bolsonaro is currently vacationing in the southern state of Santa Catarina. On his Twitter page, he announced that aid would be allocated to the affected region.
