Only 3 months have passed since the start of the sale of the last generation of iPhones, but there is already a loud rumor of the next generation. This year we have seen only a slight evolution, but Apple probably seems to dare for the next models. According to server information MacRumors Calling Apple Phones could leave one core component.
14 iPhones without a SIM card slot?
The missing component should be a slot for a classic physical SIM card, which is to replace the eSIM standard without compensation. iPhones in recent years support both technologies (they can even be used simultaneously in dual SIM mode), but for the next generation we could see models that rely only on virtual SIM.
US operators are beginning to prepare for this transition with the current generation; from the second quarter of this year, they will allegedly not add a physical nano SIM to the newly purchased iPhones, but only instructions on how to sign up for your (or new) tariff directly on your phone after the first launch. The latest generation of iPhones can work with eSIM profiles, where you can upload more mobile tariffs to your phone and switch between them as needed; this simplifies, for example, travel between countries.
Removing the SIM card slot should free up space for other components in iPhones (for example, for a larger battery), and the phone would lose a problem part where dirt or water could enter. iPhones without a SIM slot could be even more durable.
It is highly likely that non-slot iPhones on nanoSIM will initially only be available in select countries, while in the rest of the world, Apple will sell iPhones with slots. We expect a complete transition to the eSIM standard only for the iPhone 15 generation.
120 Hz for all
Next year’s iPhones, however, should bring a lot of other changes. There is speculation that the resolution of the main camera will increase to 48 megapixels, as well as the deployment of 120Hz LPTO displays throughout the model line. It will also undergo significant changes; we will no longer see the iPhone 14 mini in the offer, this model will replace the larger iPhone 14 Max.
The basic models of the iPhone 14 and 14 Max are to receive displays with the current cut-out for the TrueDepth camera, and for the top models with the nickname Pro Apple, they move to a hole in the display. Only the basic selfie camera will be placed in it, while the accompanying components of the Face ID technology will be hidden directly under the display. Samsung, LG and BOE are to share the production of displays.
