Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The White House health adviser and US infectious disease expert, Dr Anthony Fauci, gave a new signal about the development of the Omicron Variant in the country. He said that Covid-19 cases would continue to explode because of the massive spread of the variant.
quote CNBC International, he said this has been seen from the increasing trend of cases that continue to rise. In fact, he said the figure was already above 100 thousand per week.
“Every day it goes up and down. The last weekly average was around 150,000 and will likely be much higher,” Fauci said on ABC’s “This Week” quoted Monday (12/27/2021).
Fauci also warned that Americans should not be complacent. He asked residents to restrain all activities and mobility of residents during the Christmas and New Year holidays.
“If you have many, many, more people with lower severity, that might counteract the positive effect of having less severity when you have more people.”
“And we’re very worried about those in that unvaccinated class. That’s the most vulnerable when you have a virus that’s so effective at infecting people and infecting them like Omicron,” he added.
So far, the US remains the country with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the world. Uncle Sam’s country recorded 51 million cases of Covid-19 accompanied by 800,000 deaths.
