As “Delfi” informs the representatives of the Riga Art Space, the exhibition “Connections” was created by merging two different artists – the urban contemporary landscape painter Baiba Ābelīte with the designer, graphic artist Visvaldis Asari, whose work in painting is not often exhibited. Although the two artists’ manuscripts and means of artistic expression are very different, they are both united by the theme of the cycle of paintings – the earth.
The works of Visvaldis Asars, which are located in the exhibition, are characterized by a gamma of earth shocks, rhythms and interplay of squares, nostalgic layering, expressive textures as deposits of memory footprints. In these works, the artist solves the Latvian code of his land and land, stirring it to a golden sheen – this is our history and wealth, the creators of the exhibition write.
Meanwhile, Baiba Ābelīte focuses on the depiction of urban themes in art, creating paintings on metal, creating installations and digital art objects that tell about the dynamics of the century, the clutter of information, and the pollution of nature and thought on planet Earth. The performance of both artists in this exhibition will be inseparable, calling it to be perceived as a unified whole and a new connection – fusion.
In the exhibition, the works will be able to be revived and viewed virtually using the “Overly” application, which means that part or all of the work of art is created with the help of an autonomous system, without the intervention of the artist.
Baiba Ābelīte graduated with honors from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the Painting sub-branch of the Latvian Academy of Arts. During her studies, she did internships in Great Britain, Germany and Norway, where she created joint exhibitions and solo exhibitions, as well as performed pedagogical work. During her work, the artist has won several awards – twice the SEB Scholarship in Painting, the LMA Audience Award, the Riga City Council Sympathy Award “Jāzeps Pīgožnis Award in Latvian Landscape Painting”, as well as participated in many joint exhibitions and art events in Latvia and abroad. Daughter of Visagza Asara.
Visvaldis Asaris is an artist, designer and graphic artist. He graduated from the Decorators’ Department of the Riga Secondary School of Applied Arts, studied design and graphics at Humboldt State University (USA), as well as obtained a master’s degree in the Environmental Art sub-branch of the Latvian Academy of Arts. Member of the Latvian Artists ‘Union and the Latvian Designers’ Union. Mostly known as a graphic artist and designer, but within the framework of this exhibition Visvaldis Asaris shows himself from the side of painting. She is creating a joint exhibition with her daughter Baiba Ābelīte for the first time.
During the exhibition, on December 29, at 3 pm, a winter concert “Permitted Illusion” will take place.
