Some of the demands include that NATO must provide legally binding guarantees to limit military deployments in Eastern Europe and prohibit Ukraine from becoming a member of the alliance.

The two points are just a part of Putin’s nine demands contained in a draft European security agreement that Russia submitted to NATO earlier this month.
Putin, speaking on Russian state television on Sunday (12/26/2021), expressed concern about the possibility of missiles being deployed in Ukraine if the former Soviet Union joins NATO.
“We have nowhere to turn back,” Putin said. “They have pushed us to a line we cannot cross. They have brought it to the point where we just have to tell them: ‘Stop!’,” he said when asked about the exact nature of the response Moscow would take if NATO ignored Russia’s demands. .
“It will depend on what proposals our military experts put to me,” Putin continued, as quoted by The Week, Monday (12/27/2021).
NATO has hinted from the start that it is impossible to agree to Putin’s demands. The signal was conveyed by the leadership of NATO, the United States (US).
“Nato member states decide who is a member of NATO, not Russia,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters. The Washington Post.
