43-year-old wants to cross tracks in Frankfurt, then comes an InterCity

Train accident in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday evening: A 43-year-old man was hit by an InterCity (IC) at Raunheim station and seriously injured.

The accident occurred around 11.40 p.m. in Frankfurt-Raunheim, as the police announced on Thursday.

Accordingly, the 43-year-old wanted to cross the tracks at Raunheim station with his bike without authorization. During this attempt, the man was hit by an approaching InterCity (IC).

“Despite the rapid braking of the IC, a collision with the man could not be prevented, the 43-year-old was seriously injured,” said a police spokesman.

After the first aid from the emergency services rushed over, the man was taken to a hospital.

His bike was badly damaged in the accident. There were disruptions in rail traffic.

Why the man was in the track area is still unclear. Police investigations are continuing.

The responsible federal police took the accident in Frankfurt-Raunheim as an opportunity to point out the “considerable dangers in the railway sector”.

“An unauthorized stay in the track area is life-threatening,” emphasized the spokesman.
