Many chimney fires at Christmas – Harstad Tidende

In Indre Arna in Bergen, there was a report of a fire in a chimney just after 8 pm on Saturday. A short hour later, the fire with the accompanying spark of rain was extinguished.

Earlier in the day, pipe fires were reported in Færder municipality, Nittedal, Stavanger and Grimstad, among other places.

Raw wood

Record number of pipe fires

The last four years, 2021 is the year with the most pipe fires. With a few days left before the New Year – and a number of chimney fires reported in just the last 24 hours – 1,435 chimney fires have been reported this year. That is 307 more than last year, according to statistics from the Directorate for Civil Protection and Emergency Planning.

2018 and 2019 were between these two years in terms of the number of chimney fires.
