SURABAYA RAYA ZONE– A monster loud who lived in the times dinosaur found in the Nevada sea. This giant sea reptile grew very large, exceeding whale.
A sea monster named Ichthyosaurus otherwise known as Cymbospondylus youngorum. This fish-like reptile lived in the era of dinosaur. Experts say it is about 55 feet or 17 meters long.
Ichthyosaurus or Cymbospondylus youngorum lived 247 million years ago.
Quoted from the page livescience.com, Sunday 26 December 2021,
this discovery shows that ichthyosaurs grew to enormous sizes in a span of only 2.5 million years.
This new study compares whale. Mentioned whales took 55 million years to reach the size it is today.
“We’ve found that ichthyosaurs evolved to gigantism, much faster than whales, where the world was recovering from a devastating extinction (at the end of the Permian period),” said senior researcher Lars Schmitz, a professor of biology at Scripps College in Claremont, California.
“This is a great glimmer of hope and a sign of survival – if the environmental conditions are right, evolution can occur very quickly, and life can bounce back,” continued Lars Schmitz.
Researchers first looked at ancient ichthyosaur fossils in 1998, embedded in the rocks of the Augusta Mountains in northwestern Nevada.
