Another record of covid infections in Italy, for the third consecutive day. At Christmas the bulletin, in a framework characterized by an already significant presence of the Omicron variant, records 54,762 cases out of 969,752 swabs, the positivity rate is 5.6%. The day of December 25 goes to archive with beyond half a million current positives in the country: to be precise, according to the Civil Protection and the Ministry of Health, there are 500,466.
The epidemic does not slow down and the pressure on hospitals increases. There are over 100 (106) admissions to intensive care in 24 hours, bringing the total number of hospitalized patients to 1,071. Net of the discharged there are 33 more hospitalized in intensive care. There is also an increase in hospitalized patients with symptoms that are 80 more. Thus the total number of patients in the covid wards rises to 8,892.
In the national framework, the data of some regions stand out. Lombardy, still in the white zone, retouches its leadership within 24 hours with 17,332 infections. Veneto, in the yellow zone, again exceeds 5,000. Above the 4,000 threshold are Lazio – a candidate to land in the yellow zone for New Year’s Eve – and the Campaign.
The challenge is above all between the contagiousness of the Omicron variant and the efficiency of the vaccination campaign. Over 17 million booster doses have been administered in Italy. The total doses injected over a year are 108.189.004, if we consider that the vaccinations started on December 27, 2020. 46.209.085 people have completed the vaccination cycle with two doses, equal to 85.56 % of the population over 12, and 17,019,500 those who have already undergone the booster dose.
Spotlight on children: 151,143 children between 5 and 11 years old were subjected to the first dose of the vaccine. This is 4.13% of the population of that age group. There are 3,388,524 children in total waiting for the first dose. 76.40% of young people between the ages of 12 and 19 who received the first ‘portion’. 854,716 12-19 year-olds are waiting for the first dose.
New record also for the green pass: on 24 December 1,721,948 were downloaded. The green certifications issued thus rise to 168,487,603. 498,766 green passes obtained with vaccination, 1,205,808 were issued following a negative swab and 17,374 due to recovery.
FRANCE
The numbers of France also make us reflect, which exceeds 100 thousand daily infections for the first time since the beginning of the emergency. 104,611 cases are recorded and another 84 deaths reported, bringing the total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 95,513. The increase in covid patients in intensive care is worrying: another 28 admissions, for a total of 3,282 patients in resuscitation.
