20 years of farewell to the franc: has the euro made life more expensive?

Getting a Christmas or New Year’s envelope has never been so special as it was twenty years ago. For the first time, there were euros in it. Because from 1 January 2002 you no longer put 60 francs on the counter for a loaf of bread at the bakery, but one and a half euros. How did that euro change our lives? Has it made us any better or has it – as the cliché puts it – made everything more expensive and our wallet lighter too?
