No Christmas cards, medical post or magazines for the residents of Nieuw Sloten. There has been talk of a ‘worthless delivery’ from PostNL for weeks. When letters come in, they are often late, and piles of mail have also been found in the bushes.

Monique Visser is one of the residents who has received mail only sporadically since November. “At first I thought, how quiet it is. In the beginning you don’t really mind, until you think: hey, I don’t get any mail at all. Then I suddenly realized what I was missing.”

“Calls for a mammogram, your booster shot, bank cards, it just doesn’t arrive”

Letters from the Postcode Lottery, Christmas packages, magazines: they have not been delivered to residents of Nieuw Sloten for some time now. Annoying, but not a disaster. Until you consider that some post is of curcial importance. “Calling for a mammogram, your booster shot, bank cards, it just doesn’t arrive. And you don’t know if someone has died, because funeral cards don’t come through.”
“I’m now waiting for the results of my breast exam, so I hope it comes in,” says another resident.

According to the residents, the delivery problem could have various causes. “I spoke to a postman who said that the neighborhoods are getting bigger, but the time they have to do mail is getting shorter. The pressure is very high with those guys and girls from PostNL.”
Another resident suspects something else: ”We never had this problem because of our 9 regular helpers who were always there. We don’t have a regular postman, you always knew him before.” Many of the regular deliverers would have stopped, according to her, because of the switch from walking carts to electric bicycles. They weren’t expecting that.”

Comment PostNL
Now residents sometimes do not receive any mail for weeks, while they can see in their PostNL app what has to come in. Despite the many complaints, the leak is still not over. Post NL says it is aware and regrets the situation. They find out what is going on and especially how it should be solved.
