120 homes evacuated due to fire in Schiedam apartment complex

Due to a fire in a house in Schiedam, an apartment complex in Schiedam was temporarily evacuated last night. A child was injured. The emergency services reported via Rijnmondveilig.nl that the child had to be transported to hospital with burns. A total of three people had to be hospitalized for examination, also because of smoke inhalation.

According to the fire service, the fire was probably caused by tea lights. The house on the first floor was filled with smoke soon after the fire broke out. Just after 1 a.m., the fire brigade scaled up to a “very large fire”. Rijnmondveilig.nl called on people in the area to give the firefighters space.

The fire was extinguished just before 2:30 a.m. and all homes were clear of smoke again. The evacuated people were then able to return home. Shelter has been arranged for the residents of the house where the fire broke out.
