When Austin Martin was drafted fifth in 2020 by the Blue Jays, Toronto fans had every right in the world to be excited.
After all, the youngster was seen as the purest hitter of his draft year and several experts believed the Jays may have stolen by drafting him so “late”. Some even saw him come out in the first row.
In short, since that time, a lot of things have changed. Martin was at the heart of a big deal that brought José Berrios to town and hopefully hit the road to Minnesota, and he ended the year well in the minor leagues.
That being said, a raised possibility signals that he may possibly have to pack his bags again in the near future.
Currently, the Twins are reportedly considering the possibility of trading him in for a pitcher, a critical need in Minnesota’s roster. And with Byron Buxton’s contract extension, who also plays in the field, it all makes sense.
Martin always sets a good value in the trading market. He is still in the top 30 prospects for the Majors and could find his niche elsewhere by the time he becomes a regular player in the MLB.
There is no indication that the Twins have called the other teams on the Manfred Tour to let them know their youngster is available for now, but from what we understand is that they will certainly listen to offers if ever his. name is called in a transaction bringing a pitcher to Minnesota.
