Fundación Bosque Nativo presents Virtual Cinema Cycle ‘Latin America in the Gaze of Cecilia Domeyko’

Through the virtual cinema cycle ‘Latin America in the look of Cecilia Domeyko’, the Fundación para la Cultura y las Artes Bosque Nativo invites the community to learn about the work of the prominent Chilean journalist and documentary filmmaker, Cecilia Domeyko, author of numerous and award-winning documentaries on topics related to Latin America, human rights and women’s rights.

In this instance, three of their most recognized works will be transmitted through YouTube Live of the Fundación Bosque Nativo, starting on Monday, December 27 with “Lana Mágica”, which tells the story of the Embroiderers of Isla Negra, a group of women peasant women from Isla Negra who became famous for their tapestries embroidered in wool with scenes from their life and dreams. The tapestries gained international recognition and were exhibited in museums around the world.

For its part, “Secret Name: Butterflies”, a documentary that will air on Tuesday, December 28, tells the story of the Mirabal sisters who in the 1950s fought for freedom and against the dictatorship of Rafael Leonidas Trujllo in the Dominican Republic.

To close the cycle, on Wednesday December 29, “Cuba Mía” will be presented, a 90-minute documentary that follows ten musicians and their musical director, as they rehearse for a concert in Old Havana, Cuba, giving an intimate view of the lives of the protagonists.

This activity at the Bosque Nativo Art Gallery is financed by the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage through its Support Program for Collaborating Cultural Organizations.

About the artist

Cecilia Domeyko is a Chilean journalist and filmmaker, winner of dozens of awards for her work in journalism and film. He has worked in television networks such as Univisión, Canal 13 de Chile, 24-Horas de Colombia and EWTN-TV, covering news, as well as human reports.

Cecilia has traveled the world as well as throughout the United States directing and producing documentaries. His independent documentaries have aired on television networks in the United States, Australia, Europe, and Eastern Europe.

In 2011, Cecilia Domeyko received the “Woman of Vision” award for her contribution to humanity through her work in film and television, an award that is awarded annually by the international organization Women in Film and Video WIFV.

She currently directs the non-profit organization, Mariposa Cultural Foundation, whose mission is to promote the values ​​of freedom and advocate for the rights of women, children, indigenous peoples, and the environment through the media.
