Garuda Indonesia Refuses to Bankrupt, President Director: We Fight at PKPU!

Jakarta

Garuda Indonesia refuse to go bankrupt. President Director Irfan Setiaputra said his party would fight to defend the company in the PKPU trial.

He said that currently the company will struggle with debt settlement proposals with creditors in the PKPU. He hopes that creditors will agree to the debt settlement proposal offered by his party.

“We will fight. Everyone will vote at PKPU, all creditors listed in the proposal submission process agree or disagree. If the majority agree we will not go bankrupt, if many do not agree, we will go bankrupt,” said Irfan at the Transmedia Office, Thursday (12/23/2021).

Irfan also stated that there was absolutely no intention from shareholders, including the government, to bankrupt Garuda.

“There is no intention at all from the shareholders to go bankrupt this company, nothing at all,” said Irfan.

Furthermore, Irfan explained that there might be new investors entering Garuda. However, everything is still under discussion, no decision has been taken regarding the entry of new investors.

“There will always be new investors who are interested when it’s like this. But everything is still under discussion,” said Irfan.

Irfan explained that the issue of new investors will be determined at the shareholder level. According to him, management does not interfere much in decisions regarding new investors.

“Even if someone wants to enter, it’s up to the current shareholders to accept it or not? That’s a discussion in the shareholder organization, we don’t participate in the management decision,” said Irfan.

In a detikcom note, Deputy Minister of BUMN Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said that currently Garuda’s finances are at a very bad level. He explained that Garuda Indonesia’s total debt reached US$ 9.75 billion or equivalent to Rp. 138.45 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,200).

“The debt (Garuda) is recorded at US$ 7 billion plus debt from the lessor who has not paid another US$ 2 billion. So the total is US$ 9 billion,” said Kartika in a working meeting with Commission VI DPR, mid-November.

Meanwhile, according to him, Garuda Indonesia’s current assets are only US$ 6.92 billion. Much lower than the total liability.

Garuda Indonesia’s condition is getting worse. Because Garuda’s equity or capital was recorded at minus US$ 2.8 billion or equivalent to Rp 39.7 billion.
